Lexus has used the Beijing Auto Show to reveal the its new facelifted version of the ever popular Lexus IS saloon, complete with revised styling.
As this is a mid life tweak rather than a whole new vehicle, changes are predictably subtle, and Lexus has said that they didn’t want to stray to far from what has been a very popular look for them. Think of it as an evolution rather than a revolution then.
Most obvious are the changes to the front bumper, fascia and headlights. The car now has large sporty looking air intakes in the front bumper, while the headlights have a new “indented” design featuring prominent LEDs as opposed to the xenon units on the previous model. There’s a slightly revised version of the love it or hate it Lexus spindle grill too. As before, the F-Sport model gets a honeycomb style grill, while other versions of the car feature a slatted design. F-Sport models also have functional brake ducts too.
Adding to the overall design of the car are new standard 17 inch 10 spoke alloy wheels, while the company is also offering two new additional paint choices for the exterior of the car – Deep Blue Mica, and Graphite Black Glass Flake. Selected markets are also able to choose two new interior colour as well, with Lexus now offering Noble Brown and Nuance Black alongside existing colour schemes. Another interior colour scheme called Chateau has also been been added in place of Moonstone and Ivory options, which the company says “blends the elegance of Ivory with a more modern light-gray hue.
At the rear of the car there are now more pronounced versions of the “L” shaped LED rear lights, which are now triple layered. New rectangular chrome exhaust tips finish of the look and while it’s unlikely these will be featured on the IS300h hybrid model due to its green credentials, we personally think they would look great on all models.
Once inside, those who have spent time in the current model will immediately notice that the multimedia display has increased in size from 7 inches to 10.3 inches, which will surely be a welcome change. The display is also higher resolution, while Lexus has seen fit to add and “Enter” button to the side of the remote touch mouse to make it simpler to use. You may also notice the Lexus has reworked the climate/audio control to fit snugly within the knee bolsters now, as well as giving it a new “hairline” finish which apparently feels and looks higher quality.
Other changes include new stitching on top of the instrument binnacle, as well as some small tweaks to the instruments themselves designed to enhance the sporty feel of the car. There are also new cup holders and a larger leather palm rest for the remote touch mouse.
The engine line up for the new car remains unchanged, though Lexus have also updated the car’s safety equipment to bring it into line with the new Lexus Safety System + standard, featuring a pre collision detection system, lane departure warning with steering assist, auto high beam and radar cruise control.
