MY S-Type

JAGUAR S-TYPE DIESEL SALOON 2004-2006

I am the proud owner of a Jaguar S-Type 2.7D Racing Green, build year 2005 which I bought second hand in Hamburg, Germany, cost me €11.000. I have driven it for about 30.000KM without any problems. If you want a second hand Jaguar then an S-Type is highly recommended. All that wood and leather, super acceleration and what a head turner.

JAGUAR S-TYPE DIESEL SALOON 2004-2006

This is the first Jaguar I've had and I'm very pleased with it. It's comfortable and gives a really smooth ride, it can go as fast as I could ever want. Being a diesel, cruising around national speed limit I can get close to 50 mpg.

It's a beautiful car to drive though the slight delay in the twin turbos can be a bit unnerving until you get used to it. Comfort and power and it's a Jaguar.

My Jaguars twin Turbo Diesel saloon manufactured in 2005

JAGUAR S-TYPE DIESEL SALOON 2004-2006

My S type is a 2005 build purchased as an ex demo model from Mead in 2006, it was perfect until about 2012/3 when silly niggles of the electronics started to show up, it took three frustrating years before I discovered that replacing the battery for a brand new one solved 90% of electronic mystery's, the electric handbrake now works perfectly, all the dashboard warning lights work perfectly, the car has done now 140 k miles returns between 36/44 mpg...and will still make boy racers cry at traffic lights, if you have one or are thinking of one MAKE sure the Cam Belts have been changed at 100/ 102000 miles after that you risk an engine replacement, even though a diesel performance is far bigger than most other cars around us now, twin turbos overlap and give Turbine like performance, fast cornering and cat like steering/suspension.!!

JAGUAR S-TYPE DIESEL SALOON 2004-2006

Don't delay. I love my S Type , never let me down and gets me from a to b in style, comfort and quickly if required. I have a diesel and the economy is excellent, although it's mostly motorway miles I'm doing. Only repairs I've had have been wear and tear and parts are very easy and reasonably priced if you look around. All in all I love it and I'll be the last person who owns it.

Jaguar S-Type diesel 2.7d

JAGUAR S-TYPE DIESEL SALOON 2004-2006

Absolutely fabulous, This is my 5th Jaguar and I have had no problems at all even though I have now covered 98k, Had a new camm belt and water pump as per the handbook (even though it didn't need them) Returns 38mpg locally and I even returned 48.7mpg on a recent trip on the German autobahn! I cannot fault this car and I wish it was still inproduction as I would definately buy a new one. The best and most reliable car I have ever had.

Luxury motoring at a bargain price.

JAGUAR S-TYPE DIESEL SALOON 2004-2006

The S-Type is a complete steal and you get bags of refined, luxury motoring for a very modest outlay. Mine was 10 years old with 63K miles on the clock and it only cost £5K. Fully loaded inside including the optional sat nav console which I believe was a £1500 extra when bought new. Full leather, heated seats, cruise etc etc...including voice recognition to control various things! The engine is beautifully smooth and so quiet that you really couldn't tell it was a diesel. But, bury the right foot and she growls like the big cat she is and really picks up her skirts. Fuel economy is not too shabby too at around the mid 30's on average. Yes, some would see it as an "old man's" car. But, frankly, who cares. Everyone who initially took the micky out of me and then went for a drive in it has changed their tune in short order. And the best bit is it's actually pretty cheap to run as a lot of the underlying machinery comes from Ford. Only down side is the boot which is ludicrously shallow so you'll struggle if you want to cart around a load of gear for the family.

My best car so far

JAGUAR S-TYPE DIESEL SALOON 2004-2006

In over 50 years of driving many cars, including a flying Standard, Fords, Rovers and lately a BMW 5 series and Mercedes E Class, I have to say that, quite simply, my S Type 2.7D is the best car I have ever had. I know it's looks have a "Marmite" reputation, but I love it (be cause it reminds me of the classic jags I lusted after as a boy) but I have found those retro curves have grown on those who initially sneered. For me, it is immediately recognisable as a Jaguar and is certainly no Euro-box. The interior is sumptuous and has a quality finish but is smaller than you might expect. You don't roll around in acres of space. Instead you fit into it rather like a tailored suit and it wraps itself around you. The seats (I have the sport model) are well upholstered and comfortable but with a hug that reminds me of a Triumph Spitfire I once owned. But it's when you turn the key that the car really starts to impress. Much has been written praising the 2.7 Diesel engine and it is well founded. For a start, it doesn't sound like a diesel, in fact It doesn't sound much at all as it is so quiet. Engage the automatic gearbox and move off and you will find an almost perfect match between engine and transmission. You will also find that this so called "old man's car" is anything but that. The ride, road-holding, cornering is not just comfort but imperious and, if you need it, the engine has all the "grunt" you will ever need. But that "grunt" does come at a bit of a price. By present day standards it is not the most thrifty diesel (36mpg all round) but this is a Jaguar! It still brings a smile to my face and, if it keeps on going on it's reliable way, it will probably carry my coffin to the cemetery. Apart from servicing, tyres and brake discs and pads there have been no mechanical hiccups, although the cam belt was replaced on her 10th birthday as required. But she deserved it. Main dealer servicing is pricy, but I am lucky to have found a great independent garage who keeps my cat purring nicely without breaking the bank. For me she is a beauty who is more than a bit of a beast. I know buying any used car is a bit of a punt, but. If you are as fortunate as I have been, and find a decent S type, you too won't stop smiling!

Like driving a lounge on wheels

JAGUAR S-TYPE DIESEL SALOON 2004-2006

As a retired Fleet manager of a Car Leasing Company I have had the opportunity to drive a vast range of motor vehicles and this rates amongst the best. It appears to glide effortlessly along the road and into the corners. Being 10 years old when I bought it and 130K miles it had a few niggles to sort out at first. A new alternator sorted out the gearbox lock-up, ABS fault light, and numerous apparent engine codes. This vehicle is very susceptible to voltage discrepancies, so a well maintained battery and charging system is essential. I also had to renew the heater valve and climate control unit to get the system back on track. Having done all that she drives like a dream and tows my 7mt caravan effortlessly.

174k and still going strong

JAGUAR S-TYPE DIESEL SALOON 2004-2006

An incredibly comfortable car with good looks and outstanding reliability. Look after it and it should not let you down. There are some well recorded issues and I have had to replace the metal coolant pipe under the radiator after it corroded but it's an easy DIY job. I have done around 70k miles since I bought it and have always runit on premium disel. I don't seem to have had any of the EGR and related coking issues that I have read about but have no evidence that the fuel has contributed to that - just my gut feeling. You get a lot of car for your money but I would certainly make sure there's FSH if you intend to buy one. I would say that of any car purchase, to b fair.

the perils of modern diesels

JAGUAR S-TYPE DIESEL SALOON 2004-2006

It's a great car with a good engine when not on restricted performance. Feeding exhaust gases into the combustion chambers and partially blocking the exhaust system would have horrified William Lyons. Get a v8 petrol version. More like a jag should be.

A Gentleman's motor car.

JAGUAR S-TYPE DIESEL SALOON 2004-2006

Didn't know what to expect when I bought this from a Kia dealer who had taken it in PX in 2010. Paid GBP7000 GBP and do about 4000 per annum. Normal servicing is reasonable providing you don't attempt to go to Jaguar dealers who, regrettably, seem to want to charge just too much to even check the levels! I love the rear parking sensors but wish they were on the front as well. Also want to install rear parking camera with bits from China. Great for motorway driving at a constant whatever! (70?) and is also good around town. Boot space is restrictive which is sometimes a problem. But even if I buy another car I will keep this. I was worried about buying a diesel but in 2010 we were encouraged to buy by the government. Times have now changed and we are told diesel cars should be fazed out. It doesn't address the problem with much larger vehicles which will aways be diesel. Basically - I love it!
