Don't!

FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

Do not buy this car! The "new" transmission is CRAP!! It will bog down when you need it the most- and leave you vulnerable to get creamed in an intersection- Thank God I am only leasing- I cannot wait to return it

Overall impressions

FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

For a 1 litre family car, the Focus Ecoboost is nippy and responsive. The low emissions help keep running costs down and the extra boost helps with acceleration when needed and gives an average of over 45 mpg around town, more at motorway speeds. The small engine does mean you need to change gear a little more on hills but if you anticipate at the right time its not a problem. Also, if a family of 4 were going away for a few days the boot could also prove to be a little too small for all the luggage and again the small engine may be found lacking in power .

From first getting in to the car the feel of safety is obvious the feel of control the tight cornering and road hugging inside the car is comfortable and well built no soggy feeling material no poor thin plastic the controls and display gauges and lighting are precise the sound system and command prompting are delightful, the exterior is easy to see across the bonnet and the metalwork and paintwork are all well defined all together the vehicle is very well built a lot of thought has gone in to its design and build pleasure to own and drive.

FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

Best small family car money can buy, bar none! Drives, rides and handles like a dream with a lovely sporty thrum from the engine and manages amazing fuel consumption on a run Frequently 58 MPG on my holidays and 54 MPG on my usual commute with town driving. Best run to date was 77 MPG with no traffic. With a speed limiter and Cruise control, hopefully you'll hold on to your driving licence and have fun too.. Fits loads of stuff in the back, loads of excellent safety features and can play all your Mp3s too.

FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

Very nice car to drive and this 1.5 ecoboost is very powerful. The seats are very comfortable, love the large Sat Nav screen with Sync 2.The audio system speakers on a par with more expensive cars, certainly feels like a full blown surround sound system...very nice. This is an auto transmission and its a pleasure to drive, especially as I do a lot of town driving....making me lazy though. The rear reversing camera is great, takes a bit getting used to though. The only downside to the car was no spare wheel...instead there's that silly can of foam/adhesive and compressor. So I bought an identical full size 18" spare, and did a bit of engineering all for £200. So am happy now.

Focus Ecoboost

FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

The rather small 1.0 litre ford ecoboost engine is a gem of an engine. I came down from a performance 2.0 litre high revving Type R engine and have to say I am more impressed with the little 1.0 than I am the 2.0 The cars engine is really light which makes the car feel really light at on the steering. Economy the car is great, you don't get the claimed 56mpg but you do get about 48 if driven carefully. However when you feel like pushing it you do get some nice power from the 1.0 and it pulls nicely through the gears, you get a rather nice grunt from the engine which I hear can be inhanced with certain hoses being replaced. The SYNC touch screen system is fantastic and really easy to use. And the multi USB slots are great for charging iPhones, when connected really easy to use. The space for the kids is great plus 2 ISOFix points for the kids seats. As a whole I rate this car very highly, probably as one of the best cars I've owned.

FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

Superb handling car, unbelievable engine responsiveness and power, excellent equipment. Down sides? Fuel consumption, so far only getting about 40 mpg, but it's such an enjoyable car to drive. Also the Nav/Infotainment system needs getting used to

First Impressions

FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

Ordered new in September 2016 and waited 4 months for delivery. (Nearly forgot I had ordered it) Specified all options with the exception of Door protectors and up rated audio system. Wish I had specified the door protectors as when opening the doors they seem to spring open when nearing the first opening stop. If too near another car am pretty sure it would leave a mark on my door and the parked vehicle if opened without consideration. Spring is probably a little too strong. Boot space is important to us and was advised by the salesman that if specifying the up rated audio system it fits under the boot floor which is lifted by about 50 mm, so reducing boot space, not what I wanted. Had Diamond Bright applied to both interior and exterior and the car looked great, without exterior panel rear wing blemishes i've seen on some earlier cars. Specified the 182ps engine with autobox and paddle shift option. After 2 weeks I think this is a perfect combination, the engine feels that it has an abundance of power ( not stretched yet as keeping to normal rpm until 1000 miles covered as per manual recommendation), the gearbox is very smooth when changing up or down and the paddle shift behind the steering wheel works well when changing down, if going downhill and approaching a junction. Really surprised at the quality of the drive train, it drives and feels smooth as though driving a larger car with generous power. Not too much power to give issues but is a joy to drive. Highly recommend this drive train, worth every penny (or £). Cruise control is easy to use and adjust, but the control unit looks like an add on being under the steering wheel spoke, would have preferred this control to be integrated into the wheel itself. The driver assistance pack giving warnings when straying in the road lanes or too close to other vehicles is a welcome option, that can be turned off if needed. Havn't tried park assist yet as I really never have a problem parking, but will give it a go at some point. Car exterior lighting with auto headlamps gives excellent vizability, and the ground illumination by lights under the door mirrors is a very nice touch, interior lighting also gives a nice blue glow to the interior and foot wells when getting into the car. Car is fitted with Sync 3, getting near understanding most of the options. When navigating and speaking an address to it works really well. Finding fuel stations, restaurants ect. is a really nice feature. Nice to be able to pair my mobile directly to it to play music or find contact numbers or addresses directly. Really surprised at the low vehicle excise duty and the low cost of insurance, these being below my expectations. All in all, very pleased with the car, if ordering again would choose the same spec with door protectors. Its a car with near ST performance with paddle gear shift and all the luxuries.

Quality, performance and good value for money

FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

Good performance but even better with a Mountune performance upgrade. ST3 is the model to go for - the extras you want are included. Due to the large wheels & tyres the turning circle isn't as good as on other models.

FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

Great looking car , very eye catching ...my first impression. Great midrange torque but is crying out for a LSD as standard fit ... should be pushing more towards 300hp as standard .. Responsive engine but too rattlely imo especially on idle . Needs a standard flywheel as dual mass leaves uneven idle and vibrates / rattles excessively. On a car like this stop/start is pointless .. we used to use turbo timers for a reason !! The paint needs to be thicker ..as stone chips very easily. General build quality needs to have better /more attention to detail . I have numerous annoying squeaks ,vibrations and rattles .. Brakes are nicely balanced and are responsive, they do the job well . Brake disc backing plates are rusting already which is very poor as not even 12 months old . Sync 2 system is very frustrating, slow and voice recognition is hard work and poor quality. Rear camera is brilliant, Pop out Door protectors are good but doors can not always close properly with the first push close .. The electric ,heated seats are nice but constantly trying to adjust them to get comfy. Heated steering wheel is good . Overall I'm pleased with the car but it has some annoying and un necessary niggles /faults I'm not sure if it will be as realiable as my last car but time will tell . At this point I am unsure if I would opt to purchase another FORD .

Focus Zetec S 1.0 Ecoboost - Auto

FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

I have had this car for around 7 months now. Due to my partner having a Canadian license, we had to purchase an automatic. I hunted high and low for a car that ticked the 'Auto box', which was within my price range and had a sporty look. I uncovered this little gem at a great price (9 months old, £13,500). It is a great car to drive in the city and especially on country roads. Great steering and a reasonable amount of kick from the engine. The automatic gearbox works well most of the time, but can sometimes change gear when I don't want to. I have the 18 inch alloys on it. Whilst they look great, they don't love speed bumps or bumpy roads. Fuel Economy isn't as reported in the book, around 32-33mpg, however I get around 300 miles from around £45. All in all, a very good car to drive and would recommend as a fun, sporty auto.

A real pleasant surprise

FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

I got this as I'd had the 1.0 ecoboost, and found it good, but not really much on performance. The 1.5 ecoboost is a good option, as it doesn't shout it's presence like an ST, but when you push it, it does pull strongly in all the gears. Fuel economy is not up with the 1.0, I got 42.5mpg with the 1.0, and currently sitting at 37.5 with the 1.5, but it's a price worth paying. The 1.5 ecoboost Titanium X is the rare option apparently, and I've not seen another about (my dealer says she's only sold 2 since they came out). Drives really well, the all-round disc brakes makes the braking sharper than the 1.0 disc/drum set up, and the suspension is tighter too, which means it corners better.
