Zetec-S TDCi (White CI Edition) Brilliant Car with room for improvement

FORD MONDEO DIESEL ESTATE 2000-2005

There are a few niggly issues, like known fuel pump issues, injector problems and DMF clutch problems, but these cars are mostly easy to work on and although the clutch can be quite expensive at around £600 to have replaced, and the injectors are not far off £200 each, Mondeo's are well worth owning, All modern cars have common faults of one kind or another, but the Mondeo is practical, reliable, extremely cheap for parts, Most work can be done by novices, I have had many Mondeo MK3's and loved every one of them. You do need to properly use them though, Meaning, at least once a week needs to be taken onto a Motorway or dual carriage way and allowed to do the speed limit in order to allow the engine to partially self clean the EGR valves and injectors etc... but this is the same with all modern diesel cars as the EGR valves get clogged easily and can cause problems. Don't be put off by mileage, but try and get one with history to back up the care that has been taken of your car. Mine has no history, but I took a chance as I personally knew that owner of the garage I bought it from. My Mondeo has now covered 12000 miles and has been with me for 14 months, and being a facelift model ZS, I have only had to replace wear and tear items, Alternator, tyres, wheel bearing on the rear, bulbs, wiper blades etc... Had it serviced, and it is still going strong. Our Mondeo will be with us until we either win the lottery, or the engine dies lol. Great car.

Trusty, unfussy load-lugger

FORD MONDEO DIESEL ESTATE 2000-2005

The diesel engine is torquey, fast but a bit loud and not terribly inspiring to drive. The load area is brilliant – huge, low lip, and seats fold flat. By modern (2016) standards, it is medium everything: medium comfortable, medium good to drive, medium reliable. But pretty low on image. Weak points: the starter/clutch/flywheel assembly is prone to disintegrating; the injector system can fail. Advantages are it costs little to run, almost anyone can repair it, and nobody will ever nick it or damage it.
