Great car at a good price
JAGUAR X-TYPE SALOON 2001-2007
The Jaguar XType is a luxury car whose only rival would be a BMW 3 series, although having owned both the Jaguar is far superior in both quality and comfort. Where the BMW is more of a drivers car the JAg' is built for comfort. I have the petrol version out of choice and can achieve over 40mpg on a run. Like any modern car it does have its faults especially with the complicated electronics, an example of this was when the engine management came on recently and it cost over £500 to have a sensor replaced at a main dealer. Shop around if you are contemplating buying one of these cars as there are many good second hand ones around, and don't be tempted to go for the cheapest, go for one that has a full service history showing that the car has been well loved and looked after.

Best car I ever bought
JAGUAR X-TYPE SALOON 2001-2007
This car, being a manual transmission, is an absolute joy to drive. With its great handling, plenty of torque, amazing ride characteristics and beautiful interior, I find myself unable to pick any bad points about it at all. The V6 petrol engine gives great economy for a luxury car, not to mention plenty of power when you need it. Even the insurance costs are readily affordable! Personally, I'm a convert so if you've never driven one, try it, you'll LOVE it!

A Bit Of Luxury For Not Much Money
JAGUAR X-TYPE SALOON 2001-2007
When we think of prestige cars we always think of BMW, Mercedes, Audi, basically anything German. The problem is I feel they all look a bit samey, so I decided to get a Jag instead. The first thing to know about X-Types is you will get stick from people about it being a Mondeo in drag. Yes it's either front or AWD, has centre console controls similar to a Mondeo and the Mondeo's indicator and wiper stalks, but that's all that is actually noticeable. The engine is out of a Mondeo but is altered to 24v and is tuned by Jaguar to be more refined. Is that actually a bad thing? Lots of parts are interchangeable with a Mondeo so replacement part costs are generally lower than other prestige cars. Don't try doing things yourself though as even the spark plugs are a pain to replace (need to remove the air intake manifolds and air box to get to them) The point is it still looks and feels like a Jag should and that is the main thing. It drives brilliantly and handles superbly. You'll also be able to laugh at your neighbour struggling in their BMW or XJ when it snows, especially if you have the 2.5 or 3.0 V6 With AWD. The 2.0 (which is actually closer to 2.1) V6 I have provides excellent acceleration and a lovely roaring engine noise in higher revs that doesn't sound obnoxiously loud. It is very comfortable but lacks headroom for the taller driver or passenger. Also the front footwells are slightly off centre, meaning your left leg tends to lean a fair bit on the centre console when driving. Still very comfortable on long journeys however. Fuel economy isn't great, but is comparible to other similar cars released in the early 2000's. Providing you are sensible with acceleration and speed you can keep it fairly economical. All in all this is a good little Jag that is fairly cheap to maintain and replace things when they go wrong. Try to spend at least £1,500 to get a reasonable one and insist on a full service history and low mileage.

JAGUAR X-TYPE SALOON 3.0 V6 SE AUTO
JAGUAR X-TYPE SALOON 2001-2007
Terrific value for money, my model is a 3.0L petrol and this car has the performance of a very quick motor. The motor is perhaps showing its age now in appearance but none the less its a very smooth luxury drive and in the four years of ownership at 10k per year, apart from service cost the car has proved to be the most reliable motor owned. The bodywork is in excellent condition and when washed and polished it stands out from the crowd finished in metallic green which is without doubt the best colour with the tan interior. The only downside is the fuel consumption which if you can live with 27-28 and perhaps 30 on a run I think that is not bad as the comfort and performance are top notch.

Look and Check.???
JAGUAR X-TYPE SALOON 2001-2007
The X Type was built when Ford owned Jaguar so the chassis and engine are Ford Mondeo, saying that its not a bad thing because it was a very well proven car and it makes it easy-er and cheaper to obtain parts etc . My X Type was of the year that's bad for rusty sills so I should have looked and checked more before I purchased mine but at the time I was too eager to own a X Type --My dream for many years-- So it cost me to have new sills fitted before it past it MOT I haven't many other problems and I'm over the moon with the car a real pleasure to drive I wish I could have afforded one years ago.

JAGUAR X-TYPE SALOON 2001-2007
BUY IT, amazing solid build, reliable, economical, quiet and comfortable. Makes you feel like a king on the road, Putt putts along at 5mph then shoots to 50 or 70 or 90 mph almost as quick as falling of a cliff, and probably a lot quieter (on the inside) too. Sounds amazing, drives amazing, looks great and best of all when your in the bar/pub and someone says, hey, I got a new ciqaciqento or a new fiesta 'sparkle' 1.2ltr today and it does this and it does that and that happens when i hold this down, let them finish and when they say what car have you got just say this " A JAG" end of conversation.

X-Type V6 2.5 SE saloon
JAGUAR X-TYPE SALOON 2001-2007
The X Type was built as an executive Fleet car to compete with BMW and Audi. Diesels sell well and have slightly better residuals. However, the petrol 2.5 and 3.0 V6's are actually all Ford Mondeo Duratec V6 Engines and are extremely well proven, winning no.10 spot in the top 10 engines of all times list. It does have an equally smooth ride as the BMW and Audi and the auto box is the preferred option in my opinion as its silky smooth. Press "Sport" mode and it holds through the gears longer and sharper, giving much crisper responsive acceleration plus you get to hear the full grunt of the Jaguar engine and all its add ons. But the added '4 Wheel Drive' on all petrol engines as standard really gives better road holding and performance through the bends above and beyond other competitors in its class. What to look for.... *Full Service History cars. *Check the 'Crank Case Breather hose' to see if its been upgraded to the more robust upgraded part , which is 'ribbed' otherwise beware because the standard Jag item is prone to cracking and leaking causing sensor faults. *Check that there are no faulty 'Lambda ' or Mass air Flow' sensors, depicting by a 'Yellow' engine warning light. *Auto Transmissions can have a tendency to leak ( this is a well known fault), but are easily fixed with a quick repair by Jag specialist that sorts the problem for good and only cost me around £80. If you get any probs, avoid Jag dealers like the plague due to their huge hourly rates and instead look for Jag Specialists - what they dont know isnt worth knowing and they're half the hourly rates of Jaguar main dealers. Otherwise, enjoy this wonderful car and at a really affordable price. I bought my 2002 Reg SE Saloon 2.5 V6 in Nov 2015 with full Jaguar Service History and had been meticulously looked after for an amazing £1900...!

3.0 SE X-type
JAGUAR X-TYPE SALOON 2001-2007
Heavy on fuel 19mpg and tyres with it being 4 wheel drive. Handles well and still feels classy. Had to have a new automatic gear box when only 3 years old which wasn't great but Jaguar contributed to this although they didn't pick up all the cost.

JAGUAR X-TYPE SALOON 2001-2007
Love the car, but would prefer manual not outo. I feel I could manage the engine revs better with a manual gear box. The engine seems to be too high revving which makes it THIRSTY BEAST. Drives well though and is quite nippy!

A classic Jag - the last unhackable Jaguar for driving from 2017 onwards
JAGUAR X-TYPE SALOON 2001-2007
This Jag was converted to LPG. I bought it at 74,000 miles and it had been converted to LPG at around 45,000 miles. It is on the official LPG register. The bad points are that in 2017 the number of LPG garages in the UK has shrunk as BP has come out of the market. Also, an 80 litre LPG tank in the boot does take up a bit of space. And the LPG filling pumps are designed for brawny truck drivers - the pressurised LPG hose is difficult to connect to the gas port on the car. Furthermore, the gas port on the car is in an unreinforced part of the bodywork so there can be some panel flexing when connecting for refilling. But the clincher is that the Jaguar X-Type was designed to run on high octane fuel. Modern unleaded petrol is normally 95 octane with premium petrol 98 octane (and costing £1.40 per litre). LPG currently costs £0.61 per litre and is equivalent to 110 octane. So the Jaguar just purrs along. It also emits less CO2 than a petrol equivalent and none of the nasty diesel particulates which are killing people in our cities. All in all this is a Classic Jag for this century. Since the car was made before Bluetooth became standard and was designed to operate with GSM phones the car cannot be hacked. A £30 generic code reader plus the voluminous documentation on a Jaguar maintenace CD tells you anything that goes wrong - and how to fix it in an ordinary garage. No more main dealer bills.

A happy chappy
JAGUAR X-TYPE SALOON 2001-2007
The sills are prone to rusting from the inside requiring replacement. Apart from normal running costs the car is a joy to drive and very reliable. I have looked at purchasing an xe which is very impressive but a lot of money with little benefits over my x type so intend to keep it until it ever becomes unreliable.

Things to watch out for
JAGUAR X-TYPE SALOON 2001-2007
I had an S type which was a slightly higher spec and was definitely a more comfortable quicker car even though it had the auto box as opposed to manual which my current x type is. In fact it was the auto box that made me sell the S type reverse had become problematic. When I first got the x type it was overheating it took a replacement water pump to resolve that problem. However that all said I would say the most important thing to look out for on most jags if faulty electronics a they can be a minefield there are so many sensors that can affect unrelated parts of the car. Also make sure the wheel nuts security socket is in the car, I didn't to my cost. Hugh

That`s not a JAGUAR
Luxury car feel for not a lot of wonga.
JAGUAR X-TYPE SALOON 2001-2007
You either love them or hate them. The look is timeless but not appealing to the young. Guess you had to grow up with them. They turn heads but they usually have grey hair. Overall a nice place to sit and a silky smooth drive. I think that`s their main appeal. The Automatic gives that feel of being under powered and not having the guts when needed on hills and such. But feels able on the motorway. They have a big car feel but they are far from sporty. They feel safe and comfy.they give that feeling of well being. Jaguar owners will know what i mean. I found the finish to be excellent The running gear is Ford Mondeo but that`s no bad thing although they do tend to go through a fair amount of suspension parts. Services can be a nightmare if you plan on changing the sparkplugs as exhaust manifold has to be removed. Economy was poor on the automatic. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a feeling of luxury for not a lot of money these days and there are plenty of decent ones about.

Loads of car for the money
JAGUAR X-TYPE SALOON 2001-2007
I bought the X type on a whim because I wanted a Jag and this seemed to be cheap. Its got plenty of power and the 2.5 v6 is a great engine the auto box is OK but needs an oil change at 60k plus, the transfer boxes for the AWD models need to be drained flushed and refilled or they will fail. Apart from that do not be put off by the "posh Mondeo" tag these are a jag and a pretty good one, plenty of models to choose from and some real bargains out there but need to be serviced regularly. If i was choosing again I would go for the 3 litre or a manual, also mine has the more basic heating and audio system (its a 2001), I would go for a better equipped one next time. i think the estate is actually better looking and very useful but most of those are diesels and am not a great fan of oil burners - cheaper to run if you are doing high mileage. My other car is a small 2 seater lightweight roadster - MX5, and the Jag is such a contrast - I really enjoy wafting along a decent A road or motorway, eating up the miles - you have to watch the right foot - easy to be in speeding ticket territory if you are not paying attention!

before buying this car, I never expected that jaguar would appeal to me. it runs very well. the sound of the engine is pure pleasure. four-wheel drive increases road safety. I can recommend it with a clear conscience.
