superb machine.

TOYOTA RAV 4 DIESEL ESTATE 2001-2005

Never had any problems that a bit of fuel additive and a bit of silicon spray wouldn't fix.

Never again.

TOYOTA RAV 4 DIESEL ESTATE 2001-2005

This has been the 3rd problematic Toyota we have had & this one has been by far the worst. Had drive shaft replaced due to ABS reluctor ring corroding & snapping, & now it seems we are on to another one. Dual mass flywheel failed. Intermittent fault causing power loss / limp mode. Clutch failed on A/C compressor. Definitely the last Toyota I'll ever buy.

Best 4x4 I've ever sat in

TOYOTA RAV 4 DIESEL ESTATE 2001-2005

This is an absolute favourite of owned cars so far. Pulls when it needs to, will go 800+ miles on a tank, a great runner to drive on long trips aswell. Toyota's reliability does not fail to impress. This car will get you through anything and anywhere. Practicality wise there's lots of Toyota's nice little touches like 6 carrier bag hooks in the boot, detachable, foldable, adjustable back seats, sunglass compartment, sunroof etc. Drives great and the 4 wheel drives keeps you sturdy on the road although the same 4 wheel drive will limit your turning circle. Overall a great car for anyone. Things to watch for when buying: many Ravs have a sun visor problem, they become flappy and annoying. Make sure the turbo pulls as it should as there could be carbon deposits inside the variable turbo. Both of these are easily fixable quickly and cheaply at home.

Our dog car

TOYOTA RAV 4 DIESEL ESTATE 2001-2005

This car is ideal, with the back seats out (or fold up), for all the shopping, tip runs etc. But mainly for taking our two dogs 1 x Airedale 1 x miniature Schnauzer for walks, we live and walk them in the country and the 4 wheel drive and powerful engine gets us there and back in all conditions. Parking in town is easy due to its size. Road tax is a bit steep. No major faults, but I heard of problems with Turbo Chargers and steering clonks with this range of cars. Shame they don't make this model anymore.

TOYOTA RAV 4 DIESEL ESTATE 2001-2005

Just obtained this rav and I'm well pleased, good ecomony for 4x4, I'm getting 44mpg at the minute. Smoothe ride, comfy leather seats and loads of room.

TOYOTA RAV 4 DIESEL ESTATE 2001-2005

The rav4 has a major flaw every so often it goes into limp mode bit of a pain in arse when overtaking on motorway and at times very dangerous but the car when driving is amazing to drive and very economical to drive.

I'm LOVING my new Rav 4, NV 3dr

TOYOTA RAV 4 DIESEL ESTATE 2001-2005

I would recommend this model wholeheartedly - it drives like a dream - the only down side is the cost of the 'up keep' of servicing which is more than balanced out (in my view) by the reliability you get with a well maintained vehicle. If buying again I would factor in the date of when the full service is due - which is now so am shuffling my budget to cover the extra cost straight away, on top of new insurance - It's worth it as I've always wanted one for the reliability, comfort and safety.

Should I sell at 135000 miles

TOYOTA RAV 4 DIESEL ESTATE 2001-2005

I purchased this car in 2009 when it had covered 22750 miles. It has now done 127050 miles. It has required 1 new offside rear spring (labour and materials £80.00)- the only replacement in the whole of its 127K life - nothing mechanical nor electric apart from a new battery , 2 new sets of tires and 2 sets of disc pads and 10k interval servicing. The so called dual mass clutch problem never has materialized. It does 43.87 miles per gallon verified by fill ups since retiring 3 years ago. I am now 77 years old, considering changing to a more economical car, say, to last me 7 years. I would love to keep this car. What repairs might it need for another 60K miles of use? Reliability and economy

TOYOTA RAV 4 DIESEL ESTATE 2001-2005

I paid £11073 for this 2005 vehicle with 22750 miles on the clock in December 2009 - only £80 has been spent on this vehicle since for a broken spring sustained while towing in the winegroves in Burgandy. It has now covered 128,100 miles without missing a beat. It has been serviced every 10,000 miles with the Timing Belt changed at 68000 miles. I set the miles per gallon 2 years ago and it presently records 43.8 mpg. It covered 7000 miles in France towing an Eldiss Jetstream caravan. It drives superbly if a little noisily - a truly remarkable vehicle. Tony Shipley
