Good car Bad service from Dealer

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2004-2009

The car is excellent. The service from Inchcape at Kidlington Oxford is bad. Just 1 week after buying this car, the brakes were screeching. Toyota Dealer did not want to know. Wanted to charge me for inspection and also for repairs. I do not trust them.

Series 2 Prius

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2004-2009

Had this from the age of 1 and 8500 miles. In today's traffic the only relaxed route is automatic. To be fair this car does only 4000 miles per year. Short runs by my wife long runs with me. Economy is why folk buy these and IF you keep to the speed limits then yes it will do 62/63. short runs would average 54 and VERY windy rainy days staying at "normal" traffic speed this can go down to 50. Decent weather on the trip down from Inverness gave us 58.6 overall and "more or less" at the speed of normal traffic. Its only problem is the little 12v battery in the boot which can go flat if left or after say 5 yrs wear. Curiously the only door that locks when this happens is ....the boot! (You have to wonder at the brain that invented this). To my mind there is little difference in fuel between this and the 1.8 engined mk 3, which is one of the reasons for not updating. Currently the car has covered 29000 miles and it would cost me at least £16,000 to change. Hardly worth the financial effort for so little return. Space for rear seat passengers is a revaltion. Brilliant Car!

Wouldn,t have any other car.

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2004-2009

It not a solidly built as the Corolla I had. The car does not lead you to drive quickly.( Although you can ) It,s a car to drive smoothly. The good bits ; It,s very easy to drive,a little lever on the dashboard for selecting forward or reverse. A CVT gearbox ,there,s no looking down to select Reverse, drive ,2 ,or neutral as on a torque converter box. There,s plenty of room ,and leg room, in the cabin. Super quiet when moving off ,does not disturb the neighbours. It,s comfortable, £10 VED,and for me 55 to 60 mpg on a petrol engine. Great reliability and cheap insurance.

This car has been reliable and a joy to drive we have had it from new. The gearbox is exemplary and we just love the automatic electric/petrol action. I will be hard pushed to go for a manual again.

Probably the longest I have ever owned one car

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2004-2009

There is some argument about whether this model is the best Prius, or the original Classic. I never owned a Classic but don't much like the shape. This Prius is comfortable and economical. It is quite fast enough when needed, using both the petrol engine and the electric motor. The T-Spirit is well specified. There are a couple of things I don't especially like - the height in the boot can be an issue because of the roof pitch, but there are ways round it. There is loads of space with the back seats down. The Satnav is quirky and I sometimes back this up with a smartphone. There is lots of storage in the cabin. Annual servicing is reasonable. Tyres last for ages but I have had to replace them for punctures etc. On top of all this it helps to keep emissions down, which it was doing way before its time.

reliable family workhorse

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2004-2009

It's only marked down for the poor interior and driving like a milk float. When a corner comes the whole family have to brace. It's got space and is ultra reliable (not a mechanical problem since 2011 and currently sitting on 100k). Use it like what Mr Toyota intended - around town and in traffic, nothing beats a hybrid. You won't find a 5 seater family car with auto transmission doing 50+ MPG in town everyday. It however is a bit out of depth through the A and B roads.

Excellent car

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2004-2009

Things I love about my car: 1) The smooth stepless change of speed, due to the CVT transmission that comes with hybrid. 2) The comfort for the driver. 3) Great fuel economy - up to 60mpg in summer driving. 4) Huge amount of leg space for passengers in the back. 5) Large out-of-site storage box under the boot floor. 6) Secret storage spaces in the car. 7) Features like satnav, reversing camera, bluetooth. 8) The iconic body shape - so distinctive. 9) Has never let me down in 10 years.

Perfect Prius

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2004-2009

I get 53 to gallion with most journeys being a short drive around town and road tax is cheap. The car is roomy the rear seats leg room beats everything in its class, I've been told by Range Rover owners, that there's more room in the rear than their £80K job. The boot and fold down rear seats give plenty of load area. On the road it's quite and smooth with plenty of power, the quite and smooth power means you have to keep a close eye on the speedo; later models have the larger 1.8 litre engine, so be very carfull with those. Ride and road holding is brilliant the heavy battery pack gives a low centre of gravity, so vey liitle body roll. i am delighted with the car, i brought it for the economy as i spend alot of time poodling round town, however it eats up the miles on the long journeys as well; it's the near perfect car, I cannot speak highly enough of it. we have had it for 6 years now and have no problem with it; we have 3 cars in the family and when we fly off on holiday we always use it as we know that when we return after it has sat for a fortnight in the car park it will start on the push of the button.

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2004-2009

This car has been the longest that in have ever kept a single car. It has been the most economic and economic vehicle that I have ever owned and while it is now getting on in years I still would not part with it. It certainly is the most comfortable car the I have ever owned and though I cannot think of it happening, I would replace it with the same model.

Toyota Prius

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2004-2009

It's got plenty of room inside. I love that the speedo is digital and not a dial - it's much easier to see your speed at a glance. Don't leave doors open, radio on, etc because it could drain the battery. Doesn't handle that well. Skids on drain covers sometimes.

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2004-2009

Reliable, but complicated. Spares cost VERY HIGH. Poor design of front axel allows easy stripping of threads. Brake squeal difficult to cure. Cant see front of car. Rear camera should be matched by front. However, it must be a good car, because I am still driving it.

Prius T Spirit 2008

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2004-2009

I had this car for 10 years and in that whole time it had just normal annual no-problem services at a main dealer and also after warranty at a local garage. The only time it ever let me down was when the 12 volt battery gave up after 6 years, which is pretty good life anyway. Economical to run, with very low tax, insurance and petrol costs, I only did about 7000 miles a year, so it was still in great nick and the interior leather was magnificent 10 years on, so much so, that it looked almost new inside. We parted company with this car recently and the only car I believe upstages it is the one I currently drive, the Lexus IS300h. It has everything the Prius has, plus great refinement, road manners and comfort. In summary, it looks a little weird, but it is a fantastic workhorse and I am very glad we had the vision 10 years ago to take a chance on a hybrid. A great decision and if you come across one of these, it will reward your forethought with a pleasant and cheap motoring alternative. Loved it.
