If reliability is your main concern
TOYOTA YARIS HATCHBACK 2011-2014
Note: Had the car nearly 2 years. Previously had a Skoda Fabia II (level 3) 57 reg 1.9TDI for nearly 7 years. Good: 6 gears, 45mpg average over ~5000 miles, reliable, great media unit, still like the look of it, quite speedy, reverse camera, 5 year warranty. Bad: Seat comfort is awful. I'm 5.0ft and on the test drive it was OK, however having the car for a few weeks my back was in agony. I now have a lumbar support cushion after trying about 5 different ones and 2 expensive physio visits. The cushion makes the seat usable, but still not comfy. I wouldn't have bought the car if I'd have noticed this. Lesson learnt. Turning circle when parking is shockingly bad. After nearly 2 years I still struggle to park the thing. It is easier to reverse park with the aid of the camera. I wouldn't have bought the car if I'd have noticed this. Again, lesson learnt. Rear/front parking sensors are not integrated into the media system as they were on the Fabia. The front is too loud, the rear is too quiet. Also the front sensor module dropped off and blocked the glove box from opening. It has been the only thing to go wrong with this car though. Took a year or so to break in the engine. It is now seems a lot faster, but I was used to a turbo diesel. Front windows aren't 'cleaned' (via up and down) when it is wet. The rear windows do and the Fabia's did. Boot could be bigger. Again, used to the Fabia's size. No spare wheel. Need I say more. Could do with more trip computer options. Again used to the Fabia's options. 1st gear is a bit jumpy. Overall: Would I buy this car again? No. If they fixed the seat and turning circle, then yes. However it does seem to ooze a reliability feeling. So, if this is what you're after then this is a good choice.

My Yarris
TOYOTA YARIS HATCHBACK 2011-2014
I would suggest to anyone looking to buy a good quality, low maintenance, high mileage car. Around town I get 42 mpg. and have up found that running at 65mph on the motorway I get an average of 68 mpg. Having said this I always get up to the mileage I require then simply feather my foot on the accelerator, I am 76, and wish I had brought one mush sooner as I find the automatic much easier on my legs and spine as I have had both hips replaced and lost 3 plates in my spine. Therefore I feel I do know what I am talking about, I think it's a fantastic little car and even behind the my driving seat and I'm 6 ft tall and need the seat well back.

Major problems
TOYOTA YARIS HATCHBACK 2011-2014
I bought one from brand new and 3 months down the line the heater matrix was leaking. Then 6 more months down the line something behind the glovebox came loose. Had previous ones and they've been fine. Just feel nowadays these are not made to as a good quality. Looks like they're cutting costs by using cheaper quality materials and parts.

Great little car with a few minor niggles.
TOYOTA YARIS HATCHBACK 2011-2014
I'm a tall bloke (6'2") and I find the Yaris has plenty of room for me. I use it for commuting 50 miles a day and get nearly 50 miles to the gallon (motorway driving) which is good for a 1.3 petrol engine. The gearbox is ok, but tends to be jerky in the lower gears and when you start off. The touch screen is excellent and easy to use and the quality of the sound system is also very good. One slight annoyance is that when I first start the car, my phone connects to the blue tooth and a message appears on the screen for a long few seconds. This affects the use of the reversing camera when I reverse off the drive. The quality of the plastics used inside the car is not great and it tends to scratch easily. Also, the alloy wheels are cheaply made and regularly acquire stone chip damage. The bodywork appears to be quite thin too and scratches/chips easily. The issues I have mentioned above are only minor things that annoy me, but overall I'm very pleased with the car. It's cheap to buy and run and the service I have received from the Toyota garage where I have it serviced and mot'd is outstanding. I would recommend the Yaris as a cheap runabout or commuter car, but if you're looking for excitement and great build quality you may be disappointed.

2 YEARS WITH MY YARIS HYBRID
TOYOTA YARIS HATCHBACK 2011-2014
Positives are: Easy and relaxing to drive although seats could be more comfortable and adjustable. Roomy inside for a small car, I managed to get a bike inside with plenty of luggage and supplies for the week. Economical if you are prepared to drive like a nun. not as good as advertised though. Expect lower mpg when its cold. 58 mpg over winter and 66-68 over summer. Nippy when you need to, but runs out of steam over 50 mph. Happy at motorway speeds but expect engine revs to vary when in cruise control. Plasticky feel and weak body panels, made to be as light as possible. Needs a bigger battery capacity as I find it harder to keep on battery only compared to my previous Auris hybrid I owned.

TOYOTA YARIS HATCHBACK 2011-2014
Not as economical as the 2 Priuses I've had before but then we live up steep hill and so did the Priuses. Insist on 15 inch wheels with 65 profile tyres giving a much more comfortable ride. Otherwise very reliable but then it is a Toyota.

Yaris is somewhat idiosyncratic
TOYOTA YARIS HATCHBACK 2011-2014
This is a reliable vehicle that is a joy to drive in congested conditions as the combination of automatic transmission and hybrid power source means the car falls silent whilst you are waiting to resume driving. Parking is very satisfying with the added advantage of the reversing camera. It is not a car to be rushed, drive it with care in a relaxed manner, don't let the bad habits of other drivers hassle you. The radio controls are a little odd and take time to get used to especially when the headlights are on as the radio display is difficult to see. The headlights leave a little to be desired.

Yaris hybrid
TOYOTA YARIS HATCHBACK 2011-2014
Reliable, excellent build quality, zero road tax, low service costs, comfortable for driver and four adult passengers with adequate luggage space and nicely styled. However, if you're looking for sporty performance, this is not the car for you and the Toyota claimed mpg, of c80 mpg is vastly exaggerated, 60mpg is nearer the mark. For this reason, I only give it 4* overall

Yaris Hybrid
TOYOTA YARIS HATCHBACK 2011-2014
Excellent runaround and nice acceleration for a super-mini that returns pretty good MPG. T Spirit model has dual-zone climate control and many extras you'd expect from a modern car. Don't believe the 78 MPG sticker numbers, just like all cars on the market they are just there for an easy comparison, not a realistic actual return. You'll get about 55 MPG if you drive sensibly, 30 - 50 MPG if you drive like a nutter.

TOYOTA YARIS HATCHBACK 2011-2014
This is my third toyota so you may think that I am bias but no, value for money, reliabilty, economy and build quality are very important to me I checked several makes before making my decision. Steering is precise, braking is reassuring and comfort on a long journey is in my opinion very good my only niggle is tyre noise but when I eventuly replace the tyres this is something I will look into. The auto is different from my previous but when you get used to it it's really very good it won't take long.

2013 Yaris auto
TOYOTA YARIS HATCHBACK 2011-2014
Overall this is a great car, easy to drive, reliable, economical. The only complaint I have ever had is with the satnav system. I purchased the car from new and it has always been a problem. However, I moved home and my new local Toyota garage sorted it out. It now works fine but I would love the facility to be able to mirror my Android Smartphone. I am picking up a new Toyota Hybrid within a week or so as I wish to say with a tried and tested model so am hopeful that there will be an update to the satnav system to allow mirroring of an Android phone.
