A nice car , easy to drive ,good incar equipment , very comfortable , I am very rarely out of ECO mode , to get the best MPG it must be driven as a Hybrid car (read the book) the best I've had on a run from Birkenhead to South Wales is 74.6 MPG .

MY LOVELY AURIS HYBRID
TOYOTA AURIS HATCHBACK 2012-2015
It is so easy to drive, economical on petrol and comfy, especially if you are not very tall. (Not a car for a very tall person.) It is easy to park and I love the rear parking camera. The brakes are very firm - sit tight everyone! Small grumbles: I don't like the fact it has no spare wheel, and the boot space is not very large. The clock is inconveniently placed for the driver to see - too far on the righthand side of the dash. The seat belt closing slots are a bit of a fumble. However, It is a good natured car, it does everything it should, without fuss, it gives a quiet ,reasonably smooth ride and the economy is brilliant. Overall, I am delighted with it and would recommend any one to buy it, especially driving in urban areas, although i had driven many comfortable distances with it.

Easy to drive and own.
TOYOTA AURIS HATCHBACK 2012-2015
The car has a sharp modern look. The car is roomy for its size with comfortable seating. Engine in the 1.6 pulls well, but it is geared for economy. The gear change is very slick.Overall economy is in the low 40's. The car is very reliable ,if it has a fault ,it's the way it handles pot holes, the ride is a bit harsh.

A lovely car to drive, very easy and very economical. Having a local dealer is a big plus for servicing and the car is proving 100% reliable. The 5 year warranty is great for piece of mind. The Hybrid is a bit expensive to buy new but worth a look second hand.

For the lazy car owner
TOYOTA AURIS HATCHBACK 2012-2015
Very economical. Always starts first time. Door pockets too tight. Not for the racing driver, although the sport button is surprisingly effective. Very quiet on the road but some road surfaces do intrude, particularly concrete. Self parking system and reversing camera are a must since view from back window is restricted. Better to run on 15" wheels than 17" wheels. Ride is softer and economy is better. Trouble is that Excel versions don't allow this.

BJ'S Auris Hybrid
TOYOTA AURIS HATCHBACK 2012-2015
A very good car, quiet, easy to drive, well equipt and comfortable. Also,so far it has shown to be very reliable. The area where there could be some worthwhile improvements is in the dash layout. The satnav screen is to low down and the speedo markings could be better. The marks for 10mph, 30mph and so on are so small that they are covered by the speedo needle making it impossible to judge speed accurately.

My Experiences on initial delivery.
TOYOTA AURIS HATCHBACK 2012-2015
1ST. COMMENTS TO DEALER August 2015
Dear Sir
I have just purchased a new Auris Design HSD from your agency.
For reference my registration number is *******.
After a successful hand over from Mr. *.****** I discovered that there were discrepancies with the vehicle on subsequent driving familiarisation and setting - up customisation issues.
I needed to consult the “Main Owners Manual†for guidance, according to my issued 'User Guide' [Inside the Front Cover] I could access this via the 'My Toyota' website or from http://my.toyota.eu which is the same thing.
The offered manual is entitled 'Valid: As of 5/2014 – OM12G88Eâ€
On downloading this manual it is obvious it does not apply to my Model.
[This Manual Problem Was Sorted Within 24 Hours]
I was therefore unable to set-up my 'Multi Information Display' satisfactorily.
More importantly I am not satisfied with the illumination of the main instrument cluster i.e. the Speedometer and the Hybrid System Indicator.
I cannot see these instrument calibrations clearly enough and there is no apparent provision for adjusting the brightness. Unless of course the unobtainable Manual gives guidance.
If I were conducting an MOT on this vehicle I would reject the illumination performance of the gauges according to Section 6.7 of the Testers Manual, and it would fail.
I consulted Mr. *.**** on these matters and he did his best to dispel my concerns. But I'm afraid the illumination question was not resolved so I must appeal to you to advise a way forward.
Yours faithfully ***********

2ND COMMENTS TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICES 21-AUGUST-2015
Observations on taking delivery of my new Auris Design VVT-I Hybrid CVT
Reg. No. ******* from Fish Bros Swindon.
1. ITEM = Instrument Cluster.
I find the illumination of the Hybrid System Indicator and the Speedometer to be insufficient during the daytime.
These instruments are buried deeply and darkly in the panel and I cannot see them easily during the day.
My eyesight is tested annually and I am fit to drive.
I presented the problem to my dealer and after investigation admitted that they could not adjust the brightness to solve my difficulty. They checked out another vehicle in the showroom and found the same fault so it seems endemic in the design.
I would go as far as to state that If I were conducting an MOT on this vehicle I would reject the illumination performance of the gauges according to Section 6.7 of the Testers Manual, and it would fail.
2. ITEM 'Main Owners Manual'.
I discovered that there were discrepancies with the vehicle on subsequent setting - up and customisation issues.
I was therefore unable to set-up my 'Multi Information Display' satisfactorily.
This I also reported to my dealer who promised to investigate.
3. ITEM 'Parking Assist Sensors'
I had these extras fitted by my dealer. When I came to operate them I got the warning buzzers but not the graphic in the 'multi-information display'.
I consulted my 'User Guide' and on page 59 – 'Toyota Parking Assist-Sensor' and tried to followed the instructions for “Enabling/Disabling the Toyota Parking Assist-Sensor System†but could not enable the system.
I consulted my dealer and his technicians also could not enable the graphic display system.
As neither of us could dig deeper and consult the “Main Owners Manual†because of its non existence, the system remains disabled [as far as the 'multi-information display' is concerned] and I feel I have been cheated out of getting the full Park Assist package.
I would add that I am familiar with this system as it was present and working satisfactorily on my previous Auris Icon.
Your comments on the above are eagerly awaited.
I would conclude that overall I am very impressed by the new model and the improvements made over the preceding one i.e.
Supply of spare wheel – complete remodeling of the heater controls and the Audio Panel – the improvement to the clock.
As your advert says “even smoother – quieter – and more stable – better seats†are the first thing you notice when entering this delightful car. BUT!!!! STILL Room for improvement!!!!

3RD COMMENTS REPLY TO TOYOTA EMAIL DATED 27 AUGUST 2015
Dear Toyota Customer Relations
Thank you for your mail of 26 August at 16:41.
With reference to Item 1 – The Instrument Cluster
I informed you in my initial mail of 21st August that my dealer had attempted to increase the brightness but failed, as follows :---
“I find the illumination of the Hybrid System Indicator and the Speedometer to be insufficient during the daytime.
I feel that you have not directly answered my complaint but created a loop that brings me back to the beginning.
Perhaps I might suggest to you a course of action as follows :---
1. Does Toyota confirm that the illumination satisfies Section 6.7 of 'The MOT Inspection Manual' ?
2. I suggested that it may be an endemic fault.
Does Toyota refute this statement, and confirm that all 2015 Auris models suffer from the same problem ?
3. As my car had the lights adjusted to the maximum by my dealer without success, do Toyota intend to investigate the whole issue.

TOYOTA AURIS HATCHBACK 2012-2015
This model does what it says on the tin but unfortunately the lack of mods makes it a very basic car. Sat nav extra, no control over the instrument display brightness and things like that let this car down. If your looking to be under your dealers wing forever then this model is perfect It drives fantastic but I'm afraid I like more control over my interior and with this I don't get it

Good but with a few negatives
TOYOTA AURIS HATCHBACK 2012-2015
I bought this car second hand with 9000 miles on the clock. It's now done about 22000 miles with no mechanical or electrical problems to date. It's a very early 2013 model and the doors and boot lid have 'plenty of clearance' this results in some wind noise not apparent on my son's 2015 Auris. Other than that, it's fine. The boot is a reasonable size and it's easy to lower the back seats. I haven't had cause to remove the top boot floor and I'm not sure if two floors are necessary? Major dislikes are the poor visibility resulting from the small windows, why do the manufacturers make the rear window even smaller by painting round the edge with black paint? Is it so that they can then sell us reversing sensors and cameras? I'm also of the opinion that primary safety includes having clear windows, I believe that the tinting on the rear side windows and rear window affect this. Having had experience of changing a wheel at night, in the pouring rain, after a puncture, I dread to think how I might cope with the repair outfit supplied with this car? I've read the instructions and found them quite difficult to follow in daylight, let alone at night on an unlit road where my previous punctures have occurred. A minor annoyance is the car's habit of bleeping when I'm getting in and out of the car with the power on 'standby' (for want of a better word). When putting air in the tyres using an electric pump plugged into the car's power socket for instance. Driving on smooth roads (where they exist in England) is good, the car is comfortable and handles well. A pleasure to drive. However, on average to poor roads it can be quite uncomfortable, due I think to the wide, low profile tyres. When I bought the car all the tyre pressures were low, possibly to try to make the ride more comfortable. I'm told the smaller wheels with higher profile tyres make the car more comfortable on poor roads. I usually do brim to brim consumption checks when I refuel and consumption is generally between 52 and 55 mpg. Most of our trips are less than 20 miles, fuel consumption improves to around 60 mpg when doing mainly longer runs. I very rarely drive on motorways but when I do the fuel consumption appears to deteriorate, I've not checked this so I can't be sure. Being the Excel version there are several extras fitted. Some, like the keyless entry and push button power button I like. Others, heated front seats, assisted parallel parking, cruise control, I never use. I regularly use the Sat Nav but have found it and not as good as the portable Sat Navs I've had previously. It's tending to become out of date because of new roads and changes to road layout but the cost of updating is horrific. Particularly so because the portable ones now have free updates for life. In conclusion, in spite of the grumbles, my wife and I both like the car and enjoy driving it. I have considered replacing it with another Auris in the next year or so (not the Excel or equivalent!) but I think we'll probably go for something simpler. I hate to think of the cost of repairs if something should go wrong with the electronics when the car is out of warranty!

2007 Auris to 2014 Auris, not a step up!
TOYOTA AURIS HATCHBACK 2012-2015
The car was bought at an attractive price and is comfortable, fairly economical at 38 mpg average and probably reliable. It is equipped with a touch screen audio/ bluetooth/reversing camera system (which is useless when the back of the car gets dirty) but to have a satnav incorporated would be an additional £800! There is some wind noise above 50 mph, road noise through the tyres (dealer quoted around £600/£700 for quieter tyres) the gear change is not great (third and fifth appear to be too close to each other) there is less storage space than in our 2007 model. The car doesn't appear to like hills, though to be fair, our last Auris was a 2 litre diesel, a far more capable engine and following the current trend, there is no spare wheel.

The Auris hybrid is the best car I have ever owned, reliable, economical, comfortable and exciting to drive. Best car I've driven, but could be even better
TOYOTA AURIS HATCHBACK 2012-2015
Having driven this car for 2 years, I believe it is the best I’ve ever driven. Its features are excellent. I particularly like the continuously variable gearbox and the display of driving efficiency, but there are a few things that may make it even better. 1. The ability to switch into power mode is very useful to accelerate quickly when joining a motorway or dual carriageway. However the mode switches are in an awkward position. You have to look down to find the right switch, which can be dangerous. It would be better if the buttons could be mounted on the steering wheel. 2. The automatic brake button to the right of the gear selector seems redundant. I’ve never used it and can’t see when I would ever need it as the brakes come on automatically when the engine is turned off. It is also quite dangerous in its present position. A couple of times I have caught it by accident when groping for the Power Mode button, and the car has come to a sudden stop and turned off. Very embarrassing in traffic and could be very dangerous!! 3. In normal driving (Normal, Eco or Pwr) the switch over from electric to engine occurs at the “mid-eco†point on the rev meter. Which means it is virtually impossible to maintain speed above 30MPH, even on a flat road, in electric drive. This can be quite distracting, as you need to keep glancing down to see if you are still in electric drive. This switch-over point should be raised to switch at the “top-eco†point, the same as it is in EV Mode. 4. There seems to be a problem with the battery management system, particularly in Eco Mode. The engine charges the battery when cruising or driving up a hill. So for instance, when I reach the top of Telegraph Hill, the battery is 75% charged, so by a third of the way down, the dynamic braking has fully charged the battery. As a result 2/3 of the braking energy is lost in heat in the brakes, wasting petrol and causing extra wear on the brake pads. Whenever the engine is used to charge the battery, this is a waste of petrol due to conversion losses. Energy is lost due to the efficiencies of the various components from engine to battery and back. Energy is lost in: - Gearbox to electric motor - Efficiency of electric motor used as a generator - Control electronics charging the battery - Chemical conversion and storage efficiency of the battery - Control electronics driving the electric motor - Efficiency of the electric motor - Motor to gearbox I estimate more than 50% of the energy is wasted as heat. In Eco mode, it would be better to just drive the wheels, and only charge the battery from dynamic braking. The four modes need different battery strategies: a) EV Mode electric only OK but needs the maximum speed to be increased to 35 MPH. the current 20MPH is too low for driving round town. b) Normal Mode (all mode lights off) should be for urban driving, where electric only is frequently required. The target should be to aim to keep the battery charged from the engine to 75% for use in electric only, with the top 25% from dynamic braking. c) Eco Mode. The engine should never charge the battery (unless it falls too low) Here the target should be to keep the battery around 25%, using it as much as possible to assist the engine, and only charge it from dynamic braking. d) Power Mode. The target should be to keep the battery charged from the engine to between 75% and 100% during cruising, but use it during acceleration to improve performance. Overall the features and facilities are about right. The heated seats are particularly welcome in cold weather. The only addition that would be nice is a speed limiter as part of the cruise control. I’ve found this to be very useful on other cars.

As with all Toyotas (and we have 3) very reliable. The Auris is frugal on petrol (60+ mpg) without trying, Could only be bettered by having a factory-fitted-sunroof and auto-close [switch-selectable) windows (on power off). This is our 2nd Auris Hybrid and neither have failed .. totally reliable, nil-road tax and favourable insurance premiums. Would have another. If size an issue .. get the estate version.

REVELATION
TOYOTA AURIS HATCHBACK 2012-2015
Had this car a month now and I think its quite a revelation and being my first Hybrid have found it to be a lovey car to drive. Its very quiet and smooth with light steering and controls, excellent for town driving and so economical (NO ROAD TAX on the Hybrid) i average around 60mpg so far with mainly urban and some motorway trips too! More than enough room for four people and very comfy seats, I do find the fabric seats warmer in winter rather than all leather and dos'nt burn your bum in the hot summer! The sat nav touch and go display is easy to use with bluetooth for hands free phone calls and music and USB and AUX ports all to hand. I also soon got used to the easy to operate controls including reversing camera and auto intelligent park assist. I can highly recommend this car with 5 year Toyota warranty your likely to enjoy many years of trouble free motoring.

Check the depth of the paint
TOYOTA AURIS HATCHBACK 2012-2015
Check the depth of the paint before you buy. My car has covered approximately 26,000 miles and the bonnet and front bumper have a number of small chips. The majority of the mileage is covered on the A47 in Leicestershire and conditions can hardly be considered arduous. Having visited my local dealer's bodyshop for an inspection, Toyota tell me that the depth of the paint is within their specification and is not therefore considered a manufacturing defect and is not covered under the warranty. Needless to say I was disappointed by Toyota's response and I will not buy another of their cars.

Don't notice constant chill in front passenger seat. During long journey need a. blanket! At end of 2-3 hour journey feet, legs and hands so cold. Erratic temperatures. Draft comes through from boot area under rear passenger seat. Dealer has very little interest. Fobs us off. Says never heard of this problem. We've pointed out forums where other Auris owners say the same. If these problems were resolved & Toyota listened to us we would buy Toyota again but as things stand won't be returning for another new car.
