Focus 2.0TDCi Titanium

FORD FOCUS DIESEL HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

Although this car is better than my previous 12 reg 140PS 2.0TDCi it still fails to deliver enough thrills. The suspension is a bit too soft and the throttle response needs to be sharper. Having said that you can waft along at indecent speeds. I also have access to a 65 reg 1.5TDCi Focus (Titanium X). This is an altogether more satisfying car to drive with sharper responses and better poise and balance. If you are looking for a diesel Focus get the 1.5. If you are looking for a very quick diesel don't buy a Focus. If you like wafting along in comfort in a nice well built car with plenty of goodies the Focus is great but I'm guessing that you aren't really in to sporty cars so you won't want the 2 litre anyway.

Focus Tdi 1.5 ecoboost

FORD FOCUS DIESEL HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

Great car. Good handling. Quick enough and eats the miles on the motorway. Seats a bit hard but not that bad. Great economically. Great features including hill start assist, eco gear change notification. I would buy one if I was looking for a good commuter with enough room for 4 and good baggage space!

Good car, nice features, seats could be more comfortable over many miles.

FORD FOCUS DIESEL HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

Love the SYNC system and audio facilities. Nice car to look at. VERY economical. I drive A LOT of miles, so the seats are a bit inflexible and uncomfortable for me. I am also very tall - so find that the seat could go back further. It's great to drive though and nippy, despite being a 1500cc.

Focus ST-3 TDCI

FORD FOCUS DIESEL HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

It's an amazing car overall. Build quality is great, features are good and feel economy is decent. I can't help but feel that Ford could have gotten more out of the Engine though. If they'd have waited to released the TDCI and brought it out with their new EcoBlue engine it would be 5 stars all round. Another thing is that SYNC2 is good, but in comparison to some other infotainment systems it's already pretty dated. If you're thinking of getting one, wait for EcoBlue engine and possibly SYNC3, but don't let SYNC be a deal breaker, it's still good.

Delighted

FORD FOCUS DIESEL HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

I have only owned the focus for about 8 months now and i can honestly say i am impressed with it. The way the car drives is impressive as you feel confident in the way it holds the road whilst cornering and the ride comfort is great as it isn't too hard but firm enough to feel sporty when going through a series of bends. The level of equipment in the Titanium is quite good and the layout of the dash is nice and clean and not cluttered like the previous model and has a quality look and feel to the switches and the sync 2 is very clear and easy to use. The interior of the focus is a pleasant place to be as the seats offer a decent level of support and comfort and there is plenty of room front and rear of the car,and although the boot space is smaller than other cars in the same sector i find it good enough for my needs,i.e. to get the shopping or for my springer spaniel who has plenty of room. The running costs of the car are not bad as i average about 50.4 in a mix of town driving and driving to work although on a longer drive that does increase quite a bit and the zero road tax is great. I would recommend the focus to my friends without hesitation and would buy another for myself in the future.

Poor build quality

FORD FOCUS DIESEL HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

I had a squeak which took 1 year to get addressed. The paint has peeled off the bottom bumper and it took Ford 10 weeks to get back to me with a response to the warranty claim. Poor aftersales service!!!

My first diesel car

FORD FOCUS DIESEL HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

Ford build quality is excellent. I find the quality of the cabin fittings far superior to high spec other cars I looked at. It is my first ever diesel and was a little worried about the change. This turned out to be totally unfounded. Fantastically pleased with the performance and MPH. So much equipment to play with like the sat nav and sync. Packed with driver features like city stop and so much more. The drive is smooth and powerful, corners link its on rails. Very comfortable seating. No regrets getting this car.

Great Car

FORD FOCUS DIESEL HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

this ca is my first diesel car and what a difference it make on your wallet, I'm averaging around the 49/50mpg with lots of city driving and 3 x 80 mile round trips per week. this is lower than what ford say but I'm still very happy with it. the cabin inside is really well thought out and the little touches are very nice, i have the navigation model, which is not bad, however Its not as good as say google maps or wazes so if i was specing it from new again I wouldn't bother to be honest. The car is not fast but feels strong due to the amount of torque, which is great for motorway over takes etc but best of all is the way this thing handles, on twisty back roads if simply fantastic and front end is so pointy it feels like you can turn in at any speed and the car just goes. The car is a fantastic all rounder, great on the your bank account and best of all put a massive smile on my face overtime i drive it.

Very very good car but Audio system / Sync lets it down

FORD FOCUS DIESEL HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

I had a 2014 fiesta titanium before this which i was very happy with but after 2 years and 55,000 miles it was time for a change. I wanted a Focus ST3 TDCi but there was a 5.5 month wait for this which is totally unacceptable so i settled on this as it was in stock at the dealer. Let me start on what i DONT LIKE about it so i can end on a positive. 1 - ambient lighting in the footwell, my right shoe glows red and is annoying(the buld is directly above the accelerator). i can see my shoe in my peripheral vision moving when i go between the brake and accelerator, my left foot is completely dark. 2 - A - The car has SYNC 2, the touch screen is REALLY annoying as i have to press it really s-l-o-w-l-y and very firmly or it misses letters. B - It wont navigate to my works postcode, comes up with an error so i had to set a manual favorite point. C - The sound quality is VERY poor from the audio system - my old fiesta was FAR batter. For a £23,000 car, this was a big disappointment. D - only 6 radio presets per band. i always flick between stations and 6 is not enough for me, my old fiesta has 10. E - It will not connect my phone through USB to the stereo, there seems to be a fault with it and i need to get it into the dealer. i have the latest iOS 10.2 on my phone. As it will not connect through USB, i i cannot use APPLINK for Spotify. I have tried the 'self update' through the PC but Fords Sync website seems to be as poor as their system and wont let me log in after i created the account. F - At night i press the button to turn the Nav display off but any notification from my phone turns the display back on (which is ok) BUT it stays on so i have to press the button every time and turn it back off. G - The display adjusts to the brightness from the light sensor which is a good idea BUT the brightness is not progressive between stages. It will Flick between each stage so therefore draws your eyes to it as it dims/brightens. it needs to be a soft progression between stages of brightness. 3. The car 3 weeks old and tonight its told me i have a 'brake light bulb fault'. I know its trivial but a bulb should last more than this IF it is a bulb fault. I'll have a look tomorrow. 4. The boot space is very small for the size of the car and competitors are bigger. you would not get a large pram in it for sure, even a medium one would struggle 5. No power fold mirrors on a Titanium model but the fiesta does. 6. The heated door mirrors - On every other car ive had, i put on the heated rear window and the mirrors heat up too which clears the rain drops / moisture off of the glass. The Focus does not seem to get the glass hot enough so it takes 30 minutes to clear raindrops off of the mirrors. 7. Ive NEVER been a fan of 'keyless start'. Think about it- you walk to your car with your keys in your hand, press unlock on the remote and get in the car. Once youre in, you can press the button on the dash and start the car. fine, BUT you got a bunch of keys in your hand with no receptacle to put them in like a BMW for example. so you put your keys in the cup holder, rendering it useless when you get a drive through so you put them in the door pocket and they rattle and slide about instead. very annoying. Dont let the above make it seem that i dont like the car, i DO. Its very smooth on the road yet still firm enough to make it agile. The responsiveness of the engine is very impressibe for a 1.5, My girlfriend doesnt notice any difference in this and her 2.0 Diesel Kuga around town or even on a run when driven 'normaly'. If anything, the car is a little TOO responsive at times, the accelerator pedal could do with being more progressive as sometimes the difference between 5-10% makes a drastic change to the engine torque demand/output. The power is delivered very low down in the revs which is great for economy and around town but in higher revs nothing much changes but lets not forget its only 120ps and not 185. The heated front windscreen is very quick but the car does seem to lack a PTC heater so you do have to wait a mile or two before you can ask any heat from the heater on a cold day, unlike the Kuga which is warm within 20 seconds. I can't comment on the AC performance as its winter and ive only had it a few weeks. Build quality seems very good with a lot of soft feel trims but where i rest my right elbow, it has already made a depression in the top of the drivers door interior trim which is annoying. theres 2 USB and 2 12V outputs which is handy. The seats are comfy and driving position is natural. all the controls have a nice feel (except the Nav unit). I have taken advanced/proactive driver training in this car and can say it does deliver all that you need in terms of road holding, smooth gear changes and is quick enough for reasonable overtaking the sunday drivers. Ive seen 120mph on the speedometer (on an airfield) and the car was still perfectly smooth and stable. Is really is a pleasure to drive and i am very pleased with almost everything on the car but the stereo/nav system is the biggest disappointment for me. My fiesta was £5000 cheaper yet the stereo was FAR better. I know my car has Sync 2 and Sync 3 is available but thats just a different display and interface, the audio quality is still poor in my opinion for the cost of this vehicle. My friend agrees with me and he has a Focus ST too. There was a £300 upgrade to the Sony unit but my girlfriends Kuga has this as standard and this also sounds VERY poor, certainly NOT worthy of the SONY badge ford use under license. Im sure SONY would agree if they heard it too. My GF and our children all notice the poor quality and volume it delivers. The fiesta again was far superior with its SONY stereo. 4/5 stars from me.

Nice but could bebetter

FORD FOCUS DIESEL HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

My previous car was a 2006 Focus 2.0 TDCi and it was better in almost every way. My current car has less power, gets less MPG doesn't handle as well, doesn't brake as well and isn't as fast. The steering isn't as good (it drifts and needs constant correcting), and even the stereo isn't as loud! I bought the car at 7 months old with 8,000 miles on, now it's 2 1/2 years old with 55,000 miles. Despite the poor comparison with my old car, I've grown to like it (I was gutted for the first few weeks and nearly part X'd it on a new Astra SRi). Looking at the car and sitting in it, I love it, and always have done. It's the best looking in it's class. However driving it has been a bitter disappointment. Well, for the first few months anyway. As I said, I've grown to like it. I can't explain.. it's like a naughty child or awkward sibling who is always getting up to no good, but you love them anyway. With 120 BHP it feels underpowered, but that would be OK if it was economical. Problem is, there's no power or economy. There was a hint of starting problems which seems to have sorted itself out, and steering vibration at speed. The capless fuel filler is strange, the flap doesn't lock, the big screen gets brighter then dims of it's own accord. You can see it out of the corned of you eye, but if you stare at it, it won't do it. There are strange red lights which appear at random. I don't mean warning lights, I mean 'ambient' lights. You get bathed in a red light light at night. Sometimes. The car looks great and the 17" wheels are lush, and road tax is free. I really like the car now, despite it's faults.

Best car l had owned

FORD FOCUS DIESEL HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

My focus st tdci is amazing. l have owned it from new since June 2016. I have had no issues with it apart from a niggling rattle which l located to be the outer door trim. The performance for a diesel is very good, the mid range is excellent. Fueling is good too, the factory figures are a guide but using the trip computer to check properly l have seen as high as 57.0mpg and as low as 40.0. sensible fast driving. (I'm 63) average 45.0 l have to say out of all of my previous Fords this has to be the best.

how is it to own a 1,6 tdci focus

FORD FOCUS DIESEL HATCHBACK 2014-onwards

with 115hp, you'd think it's mre than enough when moving from a 75hp fiesta 1,5 tdci, but you get used to it and regret not having 50hp more at least, great car for trips and fulltrunk travels with familly or friends, engine pulls at 1750rpm which is great when exiting a roundabout but could use more. i wish it had a better exhaust noise and slightly more power, besides that everything is perfect,.
