2016 Prius Hatchback #4

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2015-onwards

This is my 2nd Prius. The first was a 2004/176,000 miles. Wonderful car. I have just taken delivery of a 2016. Engineering wise, is seems to be a great car, as good as the 2004. But, there are some subtle ways that Toyota has constructed this car to make it cheaper. If I had know in advance I would not have bought this car. Problems: 1. No spare. They give you some sort of chemical and air pump. Only good for 60 miles. I would hate to be in some remote area at night trying to make this system work and find someplace to fix the tire. 2. Even though there is no spare, Toyota has eliminated storage space under the rear deck where a spare would have gone. Now there is no out of sight storage space. 3. The rear deck is made of some sort of closed cell foam. If you drop something heavy on it, it will crack. 4. No more 2 glove compartments. Only 1 5. No more little drawer for change. 6. No more covered drink holders. Shouldn't be used for change because that would invite break in. In summary, in order to save pennies, Toyota has made this car less desirable. The lack of a spare makes it unsafe for long trips in remote areas. I doubt that the reduced weight will save more the 1 MPG.

My view of the new Prius

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2015-onwards

Having owned the last Prius model I must say the new model is an improvement. A better drive, quieter, The interior styling has improved and so has the exterior. With the added safety features, including side censors, this is a step up from the previous model. Only having the vehicle a month, I have not discovered any faults. Very pleased with the car so far.

Generation 4, the perfect Prius

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2015-onwards

The car is comfy, very easy and relaxing to drive, has numerous safety features and it looks very modern. The handling is much improved compared to the previous generations. The car is packed with so many new semi-autonomous features that it almost drives itself. The only downer on the whole experience is the lack of spare wheel on the higher spec models with 17" wheels, they come with a pump and temporary repair goo, however my dealer sourced a wheel for me so this was overcome. A few pleasant surprises were, as well as bluetooth, it has Wi-Fi, which means if you have a phone with internet tethering you can create a Wi-Fi hotspot all of your own, it very easily it achieves high mpg without as much effort as previous generations, how well and easy to use the intelligent park assist works and the ability of the full speed adaptive cruise control to roll to a stop in traffic all by itself.

A dream and pleasure to drive

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2015-onwards

As with my previous 3 Prius's (from Series 1) I find it almost drives itself, even more so with the additional "bells and whistles" on this latest model.

The new Prius meets all that i want in a car. The only thing that is wrong is that is no spare wheel available for the new Prius.

Prius mk4

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2015-onwards

Whilst the mechanics of the car are 100% the electronics are not. The traffic sign recognition is very hit and miss giving readings from 5MPH to 130MPH ,the media player badly needs updating as regards correct sound levels. The pedestrian safety system and cruise control switch off with no warning or reason, as does the Sat Nav which reverts to KPH from MPH when it feels like, USB refuses to remember where it was when switched off and reverts to start when switched on , Toyota has be unable to locate faults even with photographic evidence.

Disappointed

Brilliant but unresolved fault of many months unresolved

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2015-onwards

Its a great car. It drives well, corners well and returns over 60mpg based on topup to topup fillups. I love this type of car so much it is the third new one I have purchased which is why I am so saddened to write what follows. A fault became apparent within the first months from new. A metalic clicking from dash which I recorded to help the dealer sort the issue. The eventual 'solution' was moving an alarm buzzer on a piece of wire to another location, this was deemed a fix. I don't agree. The fault must still be present but niether I or Toyota know what it is. I fear that something has failed but cannot now warn me of some failure or danger. Or maybe a feature has failed and only in an emergency situation will it be apparent a critical safety feature is no longer functioning. The car is now over six months old. Toyota are less than active in helping and I believe they hope I will just give up and go away. Over two weeks and no call from them. The problem needs escalating to a higher power, but failing that I just hope Toyota will man up and fix the problem.

Don't know

TOYOTA PRIUS HATCHBACK 2015-onwards

The car overall is, for me perfect, my one criticism is of the carpet quality, it's poor, tough enough probably, but in places very thin which is a shame, because it really is a superb machine ultra smooth and quiet, delivering its performance in a way that makes you think it's more powerful than it is, fuel consumption is excellent, using best quality Shell Nitro I can often get 70+ especially when urban driving, and on a recent journey to Yorkshire at Motoway speed limits, I'm very cautious because of the surfeit of cameras, but have been known to squirt it up to overtake lorries etc
